Phone Thief Jailed 20yrs

The Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced Abdulai Amidu Zako, a Nige-rien,  to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour, for phone snatching.

The convict pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced accordingly.

Passing the sentence, the court, presided over by Mr. Francis Obiri, expressed worry at the involvement of young persons in armed robbery, saying the law frowned on it.

Prosecuting, Detective Patrick A. Morkeh told the court that on October 9, 2013, at about 8:30 a.m., the convict  is said to have  robbed one Alice Gyanwaa  Lah of her  Samsung Galaxy mobile phone valued at GH¢200.00, while receiving a call on the Adenta Dodowa road near Frahfraha.

He said convict pretended as if he was passing by Alice, slapped, and snatched her phone, and took to his heels.

Detective Morkeh said the complainant felt dizzy, but raised the alarm, and had Zako arrested and  handed over to the police, with the phone as an exhibit.  By Malik Sullemana
