This year’s edition of the Ghana Qualifying School (Q-School) organised by the Professional Golfers Association of Ghana (PGA-Ghana) will be held at the Damang Golf Club from tomorrow to Sunday, August 28, 2016.
The Q-School offers a platform for amateur golfers who wish to turn professionals.
According to a statement from PGA-Ghana, the programme is opened to players from 18 years, resident in Ghana and complete Basic Education Certificate as minimum academic qualification.
Interested participants must also be full members of the Ghana Golf Association (GGA).
The applicant must also have a current handicap of 0–9 and must submit a handwritten letter explaining why he or she wants to become a professional golfer.
According to the statement, the applicant must submit a birth certificate or any other form of identity approved by the PGA-Ghana executive board with two passport sized photographs and a current handicap certificate from one’s club.
Participants must also present a recommendation from the Captain of the applicant’s club as well as a letter from the sponsor of the applicant.
The statement added that assessment during the two day Q-School for qualification to become a PGA Member will include; the applicant’s playing competency, rules of golf, golf etiquette and a basic knowledge of the history of golf.
Qualification, according to the PGA-Ghana will be limited to the first five in playing competency where applicants will play 54 holes, 36 on Friday and 18 on Saturday. A written test will be taken before the 18 holes on Saturday.
This year’s event is sponsored by Allterrain Services Group (ATS) and ZAFCO International, a leading manufacturer in the automobile industry confirmed their agreement to support this year’s event to make it a memorable one.
PGA of Ghana President, Mr. Bliss B. Ayivor expressed his appreciation to the companies and called on other corporate companies to support the development of golf in the country.
Captain of the host club, Damang Golf Club, Mr. Pius Ayeh Appiah said his club is ready to host this year’s edition of the Q-School and will be looking forward to see some good display from the ‘wannabes’.
