Though Pellegrini is leaving City on amicable terms, he would not initiate any communication with his successor and is not expecting to receive a request from the current Bayern Munich manager for information or advice about the players he inherits at the Etihad.
Guardiola arrives in England with a reputation for being single-minded and clear in what he wants.
And while Pellegrini believes the present City squad should not be broken up, he realises his influence is now negligible.
“I don’t think that Pep needs any help. He is a manager who knows what he must do,’ said the City manager ahead of his final home game against Arsenal yesterday.”
‘When I came here (to replace Roberto Mancini), I didn’t speak to anyone about anything.
“Every professional manager, especially important managers, knows about football. I don’t expect any contact before Pep starts.’
Pellegrini favourites Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure and Jesus Navas are among those considered under threat from Guardiola.
The City boss responded: ‘His opinion is the important thing. I don’t know what will happen but I am proud of all of them. It is a very good squad.
“The only player who does not have a contract for next year is Martin Demichelis.
The others have contracts and for me, all of them are very important players.’
Pellegrini’s Etihad farewell is also important with City not yet guaranteed a top-four finish.”
