Pastor Landguard, 12 Others Arrested

IMG_9881Thirteen suspected land-guards including a pastor, alleged to be terrorising residents  of Denchira, in the Ga South municipality of the Greater Accra Region, were last Saturday, arrested by the police.

They were Nii Lantey Lamptey, 66, the pastor; Yussif Okine, 46, driver; Ali Adams, 52,scrap dealer; Adzo-mli Moses, 47, driver; Bernard Monney, 27, labourer, Alhassan Zakari, 36, and Ibrahim Yabati, 47, both traders.

The rest were Ibrahim Zion, 30, painter; Dolami Seidu, 36, plumber, Davor Seth, 33, operator; Abu Karim Yahaya, 31, trader, James Mawuli, 43, and  Abubakari Ayube, 40, both businessmen.

Assorted weapons, including a pump action gun, single barrel gun, six machetes, a locally manufactured pistol, 11 cartridges and a knife, were retrieved from them.

The Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Christain Tetteh Yohonu, at a press briefing in Accra yesterday told journalists that on January 25, at   about 8:30 a.m., the police had information that a group   of landguards was terrorising residents of Denchira in the Ga South municipality.

Upon that, the Regional Command dispatched personnel to the area, which yielded the needed results with the arrest of the suspects.

Mr. Yohonu said one of the suspects, at large, is being sought for.

DCOP Yohonu asked chiefs, and estate developers who engage the services of land guards to desist from such acts. By Anita Nyarko
