The Asantehene, OtumfuorOsei Tutu ll, has advised the Ghana Police Service to protect every citizen without bias, ahead of the general elections in November.
“The work of the police is to protect the citizens and the country as a whole. If you are a police personnel, you should have no affiliation with any political party as you do your duties during the election, and this will help us have a very peaceful election”.
“If the police ignore the trust of the public and work by scaring and bullying the people around, the police can never gain the trust of the public and they cannot give out appropriate information to the police in the course of administering your duties”, Otumfour Osei Tutu, noted.
The Asantehene said this when the Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Kudalor and his entourage paid a courtesy call on him during his three-day official working visit to the Ashanti Region.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu, promised his total support to the Police Service in the Ashanti Region, in any possible way to help the country achieve a successful election.
Mr. Kudalor on his part, noted that the work of the Police was a shared responsibility and therefore, urged chiefs and opinion leaders to come on board to help protect the peace in the country.
“Policing is a shared responsibility, and the chiefs in this country can play a critical role in ensuring that the election will be accepted by all” he said.
