The Minister-designate for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba, has donated assorted items worth thousands of cedis to the Osu Children’s Home in Accra to mark her 55th birthday celebration.
The items included cartons of soft drinks, Milo and milk, boxes of biscuits, bags of rice and sugar, gallons of oil, boxes of Key Soap and bags of washing powdered soap.
Presenting the items, Madam Djaba said she decided to celebrate her birthday with the inmates, introduce herself to the home, interact with the management and familiarise herself with their operations.
She declared her support for the Osu Children’s Home and all other orphanages in the country, saying “promoting social inclusion is a top priority of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, therefore the government will review challenges facing the various children’s homes in the country for them to be suitable for habitation.”
Madam Djaba said all that the underprivileged children needed was love from society,” and added that, “childhood fun is the best stage in everyone’s life.”
She, therefore, entreated all Ghanaians to assist the less privileged children in society and make the world a better place for them.
Madam Christiana Addo, Manageress of the Osu Children Homes said the home had existed for the past 55 years to ensure that the less privileged in society were properly catered for.
She said: “the home caters for 147 children made up of 101 males and 46 females out of which 48 are children with special needs, but lack special needs teachers.”
