Ossie Duran gives to Black Panthers gym

Former Commonwealth lightweight champion, Osumanu ‘Ossie Duran’ Yahya on Wednesday donated boxing equipment to his former club, the Black Panthers gym at James Town in Accra.

The items included gloves, head gears, waist gears, punching bags and water bottles.

Mr. Samuel T. Quaye who presented the items on behalf of Yahya said the former champion who is now a coach in the USA was doing well and training other boxers to become champions.

Mr. Quaye said the items were to motivate the boxers in the gym to keep training hard and hope for better things to come.

Coach Ebenezer Adjei, aka Killer, who received the items thanked Ossie Duran and promised that the Black Panthers gym will come back as one of the best boxing gyms in the country.

The Black Panthers was formed by the late Emmanuel Tagoe, aka Coach Akesi, who trained the Clottey brothers –Emmanuel and Joshua, Yahya and many others.

Yahya was among the first generation of boxers the gym produced after its formation in 1997. 

He graduated from amateur to the professional rank and won the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Boxer of the Year award.
