Tragedy befell two sisters, when one was killed, and the other sustained injuries in a road accident at Asuatwene near Akim Oda in the Eastern Region, on Tuesday.


The deceased, Rebecca Osaebea Ntitsi, 20, and Berlinda Ntitsi, 22, injured, were knocked by a Toyota Ford Escape car with registration number GE 8826-16, while walking along the road at Asuatwene.


Rebecca has been kept at the Nsawam Government Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy and Berlinda, was responding to treatment at the Ashomang Community Hospital.


Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ebenezer Tetteh, Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), who confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times, said the incident happened when the vehicle moving from Akim-Oda towards Accra, veered off the road and knocked the sisters.


He said the sisters sustained injuries and were rushed to the Adeiso Health Centre for treatment, but Rebecca was pronounced dead on arrival.


DSP Tetteh said Berlinda was later transferred to the Ashomang Community Hospital, where she was receiving treatment.


He said the driver, Kwabena Attefa Acheampong, was in police custody assisting the police in investigations.
