One Dies In Motorway Accident

A passenger trying to come out of the bus through the  roof ventilationOne person was confirmed dead when a passenger bus on which they were travelling skidded off the Tema-Accra Motorway and fell into a gutter near Ashaiman at dawn on Sunday.

The Yutong Bus with registration number GE 857 Z, was believed to be travelling from Aflao to Accra when the accident occurred, according to eyewitnesses’ account.

Ten others in critical condition were conveyed to the Tema General Hospital for treatment.

“The driver is seriously injured and he can’t talk,” the Ashaiman Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) Commander, Chief Inspector Stephen Kojo Tetteh told newsmen.

“We saw about 11 people at the Tema General Hospital who were in critical conditions,” Chief Inspector Tetteh said, “The injuries are serious. We have just been informed that one person is dead at the hospital,” he added.

He said “the driver is seriously injured and he can’t talk… We have offloaded the goods and the personal effects to the police station.”

The police boss said they were unable to “tell the cause of the accident” and “can’t tell whether he (driver) was sleeping or not… because the bus veered off about 100 metres before falling into the big pit.
