Olympics Target Ex-National Goalie

FORMER national goalie Sammy Adjei has confirmed interests from premier league returnees Great Olympics adding that he is still weighing his options to know which move to make.

sammy adjeiSammy Adjei, who until recently was the number one goalkeeper for Accra Hearts of Oak, fell from the pecking order soon after head coach David Duncan took over.

Stiff competition from the likes of Luggard Tetteh and Philemon McCarthy ensured that the former Black Stars shot stopper, gained only a handful of appearances for the Phobians, an action that caused his dismissal from the Club a few months later.

He was rumored to make a return to the Accra based team, but that did not see the light of day. He also had a couple of trial stints with two unnamed Clubs in South Africa, but all to no avail as the veteran keeper failed to land a team.

But this according to Sammy Adjei will soon be over as he sets his eyes on a return to the premier league. In an exclusive interview with sportscrusader.com, Adjei revealed that all things being equal, he might feature for Accra Great Olympics though he would have preferred to return to Hearts of Oak.

“Indeed I have had many offers from several clubs across the country, but I am weighting my options to see which club will help he return to my former self”, he told sportscrusader.com.

“Top on the list is Great Olympic as they want me to join them for the next football season. I have had meetings with some of their executives, but we are still talking. May be in a few days time, I will make up my mind on which direction I will like to go. But for now, I am still unattached and weighing my options.”

Sammy Adjei debunked rumors that he has retired from the game an action he stressed is not coming anytime soon. “I have not retired from football and I don’t intend to anytime soon”, Adjei confidently noted.

“I still have age on my side and in goalkeeping, the more you grow, the more you become experienced. When I say that I still want to play for the Black Stars, people think I’m joking, but I want to prove a point, but getting a team and playing regularly will be the first step.”
