The maiden speech and prize giving day of Odorgonno Model Basic School was held on Saturday in Accra with a call on parents to prioritise their children’s education in order to secure their future.
According to the Municipal Director of Ga-Central, Mr. Aristo Aryee parents who empower children through education position them ahead of other children.
Mr. Aryee said that in order to tackle the task of grooming children, parents and teachers must partner for the development of children.
He said children spend most part of the day in school and that teachers need to be adequately equipped to handle the educational and emotional needs of the children.
“I urge parents to foster relationships with teachers in order to be updated with challenges your children face at school,” he said.
He lauded the school for being the best basic school in the municipality and promised that the assembly would build an ultra modern toilet facility in the school.
The Head teacher of the school, Mrs. Victoria Gyatsen said that since its establishment seven years ago with ninety seven pupils and five teachers, the school currently has a population of 550 pupils and 18 teachers.
The head teacher said that with the aim of improving education standards, discipline and accessibility, the school earned 100% distinction with its first batch this year.
Mrs. Gyatsen said that the pupils also emerged winners in the boys’ football and girls’ netball competitions held in the municipality and thanked teachers and parents for supporting them.
She cited the lack of educational toys for kindergarten pupils, furnishing and stocking of the school’s library with books,inadequate furniture and drilling of a borehole to cut down on payment of high water bills are some of the challenges facing the school.
