NRCC Forms Group To Improve Education

Alhaji Limuna Mohammed MuniruThe Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) in collaboration with IBIS Ghana has formed a committee to check the falling standards of education in the region.

The committee, known as “The Education Sector Working Group” has been set-up with the objective of fashioning out strategies for implementation to enhance academic performance among children in the region.

Among other things, the Group is to develop a roadmap for the implementation of agreed recommendations reached at the recent Northern Regional Education Forum held to find ways for advancing education in the area.

Also,  the Group would develop strategies to address the peculiar challenges in the 26 districts in the region, towards improving teaching and learning in the respective districts.

Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru, Northern Regional Minister who inaugurated the committee Friday urged Group to be committed and deliver on its mandate.

According to him quality education was a critical tool in the fight against the poverty, adding that all stakeholders needed to commit resources in that regard.

Alhaji Muniru entreated the committee to give more priority to teachers’ professional development and their welfare to ensure that they were adequately motivated to give off their best.

The working group comprised representatives of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), Northern Regional Education Directorate, Northern Regional House of Chiefs, Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Islamic Education Unit, Catholic Education Unit, Retired Education Directors, Northern and Network for Education Development (NNED), as well as development partners.
