Nii Noi Nortey, the failed New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate in the Korle Klottey Constituency yesterday announced he will contest the seat as an independent candidate in the November general election.
Speaking to the media at Osu, in Accra Nii Nortey said his decision to contest as an independent candidate was irreversible.
He accused the leadership of the NPP of lacking managerial skills.
“Let me make this clear again, that most of the people up there lacked managerial skills, if they have those skills, these issues would not have gotten to where it is now”.
“Today’s decision is the decision of the masses and of God, there will never be anytime I will rescind this decision, I also want to assure every one that it is forward ever backwards never,” he said.
According to him, the leadership of the party deliberately placed impediments in his way by ensuring he did not win the re-run primary of the constituency.
He further stated that he had toiled for the party as a constituency chairman, but when it got to the time the party was to reciprocate that it denied him the opportunity, adding that he is for the people of Korle Klottey.
He said his decision to go solo was arrived at following calls by the masses in the constituency and beyond.
Nii Nortey’s contender, Philip Addison emerged winner during a re-run of the primary in the constituency. Mr Addison polled 396 out of the 765 votes cast to beat Nii Noi Nortey who had 367 votes.
This was after Nii Nortey had won in an earlier primary held last year, where he polled 393 votes as against 22 votes for Mr. Addison while a third contestant, Nii Adjei Tawiah, had 19 votes.
