NPP Nadowli/Kaleo executives threaten resignation over impasse with DCE

Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Nadowli/Kaleo constituency of the Upper West Region have threatened to resign en bloc if the leadership of the party fails to find a lasting solution to the impasse between them and the District Chief Executive (DCE), Catherine Lankono.

The group, comprising constituency executives and electoral area coordinators accused Madam Catherine Lankono of sidelining them and disregarding party structures in the discharge of her duties.

At a press conference at Nadowli on Monday, Joseph Dassah Kontomah, the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency Communications Officer of the NPP, alleged that the DCE, both in conduct and in speech fueled factionalism by selectively working with few preferred executives who ostensibly support her plan of vying for the Parliamentary seat.

“She would not even recognise or involve majority of us the executives because she perceives us as not supporting her intended parliamentary ambition. She engages
in acts that are detrimental to the growth and development of the party in the area, failing to recognise suspension of the constituency chairman by the regional executives and favouring members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the neglect of our grassroots supporters.”

“Madam Catherine Lankono is comfortable with the NDC, when we complained, she alleged that she was at post to serve the interest of the government and not the party, we will have no other choice than to resign en bloc if steps are not taken to immediately call her to order.”

“If the leadership fails to bring her to order and she continues to work with the suspended chairman, we will resign en bloc from the party,” Mr Kontomah threatened.

When contacted, Madam Catherine Lankono declined to comment on the allegations levelled against her. –
