The Brong-Ahafo Regional Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), has initiated moves to resolve the impasse between the Sunyani Traditional Council (STC), and the Regional Minister-designate, Kwaku Asomah Cheremeh.

This follows protest by the STC over the nomination of the Minister-designate, for the position of Brong-Ahafo Region accusing him of showing disrespect towards the traditional authority.

The STC therefore, indicated their unwillingness to work with the Minister-designate for the region and urged the president, Nana Akufo Addo, Addo Dankwa to take a second look at the appointment.

‘We cannot work with him, the spokeperson and Krontihene of the Council Nana Bofotia Boamponsem stated at a press conference on Thursday in Sunyani.”

In October last year, the chiefs accused the now Minister-designate of insulting the Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri.

This was when former President John Mahama, then candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as part of a campaign tour, paid a courtesy call on Nana Nkrawiri at his palace.

The chief commended the President for the good work done and predicted that he would win an overwhelming 80 per cent of votes in the region in the 2016 election.

Mr. Asoma Cheremeh condemned Nana Nkrawiri’s statement, saying, the chief stooped to the lowest level to call on residents of the region to endorse the then candidate John Mahama.

At a media briefing in Sunyani yesterday, the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Kofi Boateng, announced that the Regional Council of Elders of the party, has indicated their readiness to resolve the issue between the STC and the Minister-designate, to ensure peace and tranquility for the development of the region.
He, therefore, called on all communicators of the party in the region and beyond to cease forth with communicating on the issue as the Council of Elders work to resolve the matter.
Mr. Boateng thanked President Nana Akufo-Addo, for choosing Kwaku Asomah  Cheremeh from within their fold as the regional minister’s adding that this would ensure the continuity and stability needed for the party to fulfill the campaign promises made to the people in the region.

He said the region was also grateful to the President for appointing Mr. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, and Professor Gyan Baffour in his government.

The Deputy General Secretary said, Mr. Cheremeh, who is also the Regional Chairman of the party has the experience and the acumen to address plethora of challenges facing the region.
