The New Patriotic Party (NPP) appealed to all stakeholders especially the would-be candidates contesting in the upcoming constituency primaries to respect the rules of engagement and conduct of the exercise with the necessary maturity.

The acting General Secretary of the party, John Boadu who made the appeal at a press conference yesterday, said the NPP needs incidence-free primaries.

“Let us remain united and committed to the call of our party and government at all times so that we can continue to deliver the needed prosperity to the Ghanaian people.

Once again, let it be said that the NPP came out of the 2018 primaries as a much stronger party,” he noted.

The ruling party would conduct its constituency and external branch executive’s elections between February 21 and 24, this year.

Positions to be contested for are: constituency chairperson, first vice chairperson, second vice chairperson, secretary, assistant secretary and treasurer.

Others are organiser, women’s organiser, youth organiser and Nasara coordinator.

“Let us remain united and committed to the call of our party and government at all times so that we can continue to deliver the needed prosperity to the Ghanaian people. Once again, let it be said that the NPP came out of the 2018 primaries as a much stronger party,” Mr. Boadu stated.

He further expressed the party’s gratitude to the rank and file, as well as members who served on the various polling stations and electoral area elections committee for superintending over the just ended polling station and electoral area elections across the country.

According to him the exercise was generally successful apart from few areas, numbering about seven constituencies where there were some challenges, including lawsuits.

“But the good news is that, our legal team led by Nana Obiri Boahen, the Deputy General Secretary, is competently handling these issues and making significant strides at resolving them,” he added.

Mr. Boadu said the constituency elections would be conducted under the supervision of the Electoral Commission of Ghana as well as the Constituency Elections Committee.

A member of the Chapter Elections Committee shall not be eligible to contest for any position in the chapter elections.

The chapter annual delegates conference of the party shall be held from 15th to 25th February, 2018 to, among other things, elect executives for the various chapters.
