NPP Aspirants Battle-Ready

Twenty-four aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region were on Saturday vetted to contest regional executive positions in an exercise conducted by the national executive.

The aspirants included Mr. Adams Mahama, Mr. Abdalla Otito, Mr. Bukari Bawa, Mr. Gaberial Asaana all contesting the Regional Chairman position.

Others are Mr. Isaac Atasige and Mr. Mohammed Mutala Ibrahim vying for the first vice chairmanship position. Mr Francis Atotono and Mrs Osman Mahamud are both vying for the second Vice Chairmanship position.

Mr. Michael Abogro and Mr Cletus Ayambire are battling for the Regional Secretary position while Mr Adbdul Karim Ibrahim, Abdul Malik and Mr. Passia Asam are contesting for the assistant secretary position.

Two persons, Mr Patrick Ayamba and Mr Edmond Bombande are vying for the treasurer position while Mr Yaw Mort, Mr Jerry Asamani and Mr Karim A Bediako are contesting the Regional Organiser position.

Mr. Latif Solomon, Mr Abuga Gordon and Mr Bashiru Ibrahim are contesting the youth organiser position whilst Ms. Angelina Akorigu and Ms. Florence Kurubila are vying for the Women’s Organiser slot.

Mr. Mohammed Siita is contesting the NASARA Club position; a zongo wing of the party in the Region.

The party would conduct its Regional Executive Election on January 25. Currently, the contestants are vigorously touring all the 15 constituencies in the region to persuade the party’s delegates to vote for them.

In another development, twenty-five people have filed their nominations to vie for the top positions of the Eastern Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

All the 25 have gone through vetting and have since been cleared by the regional election committee chaired by the former Minister of Finance Mr Yaw Osafo-Marfo.

The race has become keener and more exciting with the contestants having their campaigns on the doorstep of would be delegates.

The position of regional chairman is being contested by three people including the incumbent chairman, Dr Samuel Yaw Annor, with Mr Yaw Gyekye Amoaben, former regional chairman and Mr Kiston Akomeng Kissi, former Member of Parliament for Akwatia.

The regional secretary position is being contested unopposed by the incumbent, Mr Prince Aboagye with two people battling the deputy regional vice secretary.

The first and second vice-chairman positions are being contested by two people each which include Alhaji Omar Bodinga, the incumbent, Nana Addo Boakye, Seth okyere, and Nana Fredua Ofori Atta, respectively.

Six people are vying for the regional organizer which include Ike Gyasi Apau, Richard Amofa, Kwame Appiah Kodua, Foster Nti,  Nyarko Abronoma and  Ahmed Yusif

The regional youth organizer position is also being contested by four people including Kinsley Ofosu Ntiamoah, Baah Mensah, Jerry Osei Mensah and

Significantly, even though the NPP is not in power, this year’s race for the regional executive positions has attracted a lot of enthusiastic youth, many of whom have thrown their weight behind the various candidates and are even on their campaign trails, helping to sell the messages of the respective candidates to the delegates.

January 25, 2014, delegates numbering about 600 drawn from the constituencies and elders of the party in the region, and the candidates themselves, will come together to elect their representatives to lead the party in the coming years.

In the Brong-Ahafo Region, four people have filed their nominations to contest the chairmanship slot of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), information from the Regional elections committee of the party has revealed.

They are Mr. Kwame Twumasi-Awuah, former Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Kwadwo Yeboah Fordjour, a former NPP regional Chairman, Mr Joseph Kwaku Adjei and Mr. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, incumbent Regional Chairman.

About 530 delegates drawn from all the 29 constituencies are expected to attend the party’s delegates conference scheduled for January 25.

Mr. Sah said four contestants are also vying for the first vice chairman position. They are Mr. Paul Okoh, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi North, Mr. Joseph Yaw Appiah, Mr. Shaibu Musa Bamba and Mr. Thomas Adu-Appiah.

For the second vice chairman position, three people are contesting. They are Mr. Kwame Aidoo, Mr. Ernest Kusi-Duah and Mr. Joseph Mensah.  Mr Alfred Ofori Annye, incumbent Regional Secretary and Mr Robert Dwomoh Mensah are vying for the Regional secretary position.

Mr. Kofi Ofosu Boateng and Mr. Jephthah Apau are contesting for deputy regional secretary while Mr Kofi Darko, Mr. Batholomew Nathaniel Incoom, Mr. Ali Maiga Halidu, Mr. Aaron Obiri Korang and Mr. Kwadwo Agyekum are contesting for the regional organizer position.

In the women organiser contest, Mrs Felicia Adomah, Justina Owusu-Banahene and Dorothy Ama Amponsah are vying while Mr Mohammed Gausu Baba, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, Nana Sekyere Boateng and Mr. Michael Osei Boateng are contesting for the Youth Organiser position.

Mr. Kwaku Boadi and Alhaji Issaka Issah are contesting for the regional treasurer position while Alhaji Adamu Mohammed and Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Abass are contesting for the Nasara coordinators.—GNA
