NPP Annuls Local Polls

NPP-Ghana-logoTHE National Elections Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) yesterday annulled the party’s polling station, electoral area co-ordinators, and constituency elections in six constituencies.

It further annulled the NPP’s Ashanti and Western regional NASARA elections.

NEC directed that fresh elections should be held in all the affected areas not later than Friday, March 21, this year.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by the chairman of NEC, C.K. Tedam, stated that “having heard the petitioners and respondents” cases,  NEC has come to the conclusion that the laid down procedures and rules were not followed and as a result, people were deliberately disenfranchised in elections purported to have taken place in these constituencies”.

It mentioned the affected constituencies where the re-run should take place as Okaikoi South, Okaikoi North, Krowor, in the Greater Accra Region, Juaben and Manhyia, in Ashanti Region.

“The committee concluded that in the case of the Ejisu Constituency in Ashanti Region, the album prepared by the regional office of the NPP should be used to conduct the polls”, the statement said.

It added that the re-run should be conducted in line with existing electoral guidelines, especially polling station registers to be prepared.

The statement noted that the committee decided that the regional NASARA elections in Ashanti  and Western Regions should be re-run to comply with the convention of only constituency NASARA  co-ordinators being used in conducting the elections in the other regions.

“All elections will be organised under the supervision of National Elections Committee”, the statement concluded.
