No water shortage in Korle-Bu—-GWCL

Korle-buThe Ghana Water Company Limited has downplayed media reports that acute water shortage has hit the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

A release issued in Accra yesterday by the Head of Communications of the company, Stanley Martey stated that the pipeline supplying water to Korle Bu and surrounding communities had to be isolated following multiple perforations on the 300mm cast iron pipeline to allow for repair works.

It said the repair works could not be completed on January 17 and so had to be extended to the following day.

The release indicated that the repair works was completed on January 18 and water supply has finally been resumed to the hospital and the affected communities.

It said while the company apologises for the inconvenience caused to the hospital and the general public, it wishes to notify the public that Korle-Bu currently has an internal central storage facility that can last beyond three days in the event where water could be a challenge adding that “GWCL has a well organised arrangement to have water delivered to the hospital to forestall any eventuality hence both organisetions would not describe the situation as acute water shortage as purported by a section of the meeting therefore the unfortunate incident could not be described as acute”.

The release said management was grateful that the information was brought to the attention of all but would appreciate it more if the media seeks more information from the company before publication to forestall any apprehension in the system.
