No Cause For Alarm

GBEVLOThe National Security Coordinator, Colonel (Rtd.) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, has assured, his outfit will live up to expectation after the Supreme Court delivers its ruling on August 29.

The assurances of Col. Gbevlo-Lartey came on the heels of criticisms and renewed fear of violence after the Supreme Court’s ruling on the 2012 presidential election petition after a recent caution by the US embassy to its citizens in Ghana.

However, Col. Gbevlo-Lartey said his outfit’s intelligence did not point to possible violence and saw nothing wrong with a directive by the United States Embassy to its citizens to take safety precautions, especially on August 29.

The Consulate explained on Tuesday that, it deemed it proper to alert its citizens in periods like the one in which Ghana found itself now.
Sarah Stryker, Director of Public Affairs at the US Embassy, said they had only issued the circular as a precautionary measure to U.S citizens.

However, Col. Gbevlo-Lartey said, “we know…which threats [the August 29 ruling] poses…we have assessed it, we know the level of risk…and we are doing quite a lot,” stressing nothing will happen.

He also noted the responsibility of the U.S Embassy to protect its citizens, indicating such statements are part of the embassy’s duty towards its citizens in the country.
