Analyst, Irbad Ibrahim has stated that there is no cause for alarm on the
leaked audiotape of Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the National Chairman of the National
Democratic Congress (NDC) because his words don’t necessarily mean planning for
violence.
“The use
of the word ‘tactical’ should not raise any apprehension since it takes tact
and due diligence to win an election, state intelligence and security agencies
are free to invite him and others on the quiet to ascertain the veracity of the
tapes, give some clarity and context to them.
“It is not
necessary at all to create alarm where there is none because covert and overt actions,
as the national chairman of the NDC put it, in the electoral space don’t
necessarily mean planning violent activities, people should go about their
daily activities, there is no cause for alarm,” Mr Ibrahim stressed.
A leaked audiotape circulating on social media purported to be the voice of Ofosu Ampofo is creating ‘fear and panic’ ahead of the 2020 general elections.
The leaked tape from a meeting held at the party’s headquarters days after the infamous Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence, captured leading members of the party allegedly planning strategies the NDC will use to regain power in 2020.
Mr Ofosu Ampofo, who could be heard speaking to some party members without equivocation, said the NDC would target lives of members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2020 since state security could not protect them.
According to him, another delicate aspect to win the 2020 elections was targeting the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa saying “we must wage a relentless war on this EC Chair, she doesn’t want to see my face.”
However, Mr Ibrahim asked the media to stop alarmist reportage because there was no cause for alarm but rather spend their energy mobilising the citizenry to work in order to increase productivity and tirelessly work towards a peaceful 2020 elections. –peacefmonline.com
