The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has launched ‘machine numbers’ game, in Accra, to offer clients the opportunity to win prizes.

It is designed to stimulate the market, and give the public the chance to win prizes on the last set of five numbers to be drawn out of the machine numbers.

The Director-General of the NLA, Brigadier-General Martin Ahiaglo (rtd), said the lottery industry in the country was in a state of flux.

“The activities of ‘banker to banker’ are at the level that has never been witnessed in this country before. The monies these operators make go into private pockets, depriving the state of more revenue for developmental projects,” he said.

Brig-Gen Ahiaglo expressed worry that sports betting outlets had sprung up, putting pressure on people whose ‘disposable income’ had not appreciated significantly.

He said NLA as the sole body mandated to conduct lottery, needed to be creative and innovative in its operations.

Brig-Gen Ahiaglo said a research conducted before the introduction of the game revealed that the numbers of some lotto stakers dropped as machine numbers.
