Nkrumah Circle Flooded Again

IMG_9551ACTIVITIES at the Neoplan Station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle came to a halt yesterday, following a downpour that resulted in the flooding of the area.

The Odaw stream overflowed its banks flooding the station, forcing drivers to park their vehicles on the streets, which resulted in a traffic jam.

Passengers and traders took cover under any available structure around the station.

Travellers, workers and traders were, therefore, compelled to wade through the flood which was above knee level.

Benjamin Okine, chairman of the Neoplan Station branch of the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU), told The Ghanaian Times that the situation had become the order of the day anytime there was a downpour.

He attributed the situation to the sand and other waste materials, especially, polythene materials that continued to be dumped into the drains.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly, he said, about two years ago, heeded to their call and dredged the stream but after that the sand and other waste materials collected from the gutter were left to drift back into it, thus, resulting in flooding, when it rained.
