Nigerian gets 36 years for robbing, kidnapping businesswoman

A Nigerian, Isaac Aigbona, 24, who robbed and kidnapped a businesswoman at Mile ‘7’, in Accra, has been jailed 36 years by an Accra circuit court.

He pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, causing harm and kidnapping and was sentenced accordingly by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, the presiding judge.

The Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kwaku Boadu Peprah, disclosed these to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, stating that the caretaker, who was attacked during the robbery, passed on at a hospital last Sunday.

It would be recalled that in the Ghanaian Times April 4, 2019, issue, it was reported that on April 1, Aigbona and an accomplice, who was on the run and being sought by the police, kidnapped the businesswoman and took her to a bush at Amasaman in her vehicle.

The two attacked and robbed the victim of her valuables and held her hostage in her vehicle and took her to a bush.

In the process, the suspects attacked a caretaker, who was in the house with a rod, which resulted in blood oozing from the nose and she became unconscious.

The suspects asked the businesswoman to take them to her husband so that they could collect money from him, else they would kill her.

Unfortunately for the robbers, a police patrol approached the area and asked them why the car was parked in the bush, but they (robbers) said the vehicle was faulty.

The woman raised the alarm, which alerted the police who arrested one of the Aigbona.
