The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dr. Kweku Owusu, has ordered the stoppage of work on three major projects sited on waterways in the municipality.
The projects involve the construction of a petrol filling station near the Kassadjan road bypass at Effiduase, the filling of a plot of land demarcated for the collection of excess rain water at Koforidua and construction works along the buffer zone of the Kassadjan road.
Dr. Acheampong asked the owners to produce building and other permits from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).
He gave the order when he took the technical committee of the Works Committee of the municipal assembly round some parts of the municipality to have a firsthand information about construction works going on in those areas.
Answering questions from the media, who accompanied him, Dr. Acheampong explained that, the municipal assembly would be relying on professional advice from the Works Committee of the assembly on the projects that had been stopped, and that those projects that met all the building regulations of the assembly would be permitted to continue while those that did not meet the expected conditions would be stopped.
The Municipal Chief Executive later visited the former Koforidua-Ho lorry park, where work is expected to start next month to upgrade the area.
The Municipal Chief Executive said the assembly would construct a three storey building to provide stores, ticket booths, a waiting room and places of convenience.
He said the whole area would also be paved.
Dr. Acheampong said, currently, the assembly was constructing stalls for the second-hand clothes dealers and also relocating the squatters at the place for work to begin.
