Elmina Sharks owner, Papa Kwesi Nduom has promised each player GH1,000 as qualification bonus for progressing to the Ghana Premier League.
Nduom, who is the Presidential Candidate for the Progressive People’s Party in the December’s General Elections, made the declaration after Sunday’s penultimate Zone 2 match against Nzema Kotoko.
“The players have made the fans and people of Elmina and K.E.E.A proud by qualifying for the Premier League next season so I will give every player GH¢1,000 as reward,” he said.
Elmina Sharks managed to draw 1-1 with Nzema Kotoko after Eric Osei converted an 81st minute penalty to cancel out Ebenezer Tweneboah’s earlier goal.
Meanwhile, Elmina Sharks were officially declared winners of Zone Two of the GN Bank Division One League (DOL).
They have thus been promoted to the Ghana Premier League (GPL) for the 2016-17 football season.
Sharks secured 66 points, 10 more than second placed Karela, with the last round of matches in the zone yet to be played.
At the brief coronation event held after their Day 29 match against Nzema Kotoko, Sharks were awarded with a trophy, a plaque and medals for all players and technical team members for topping the zone.
Elmina Sharks will be making its first appearance in the Ghanaian top flight league where they could join Ebusua Dwarfs as the second club from the Central region in the 2016/17 GPL.
According to the Division League Board, winners of Zone 1 & 3 will also receive similar awards if they confirm their leads on their respective league tables.-FA
