The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Elections for the Central Region, Mr. Yaw Asiedu, has died in a motor accident.
The regional chairman of the party Bernard Allotey Jacobs, who confirmed this, said the accident occurred yesterday morning on the Apam-Winneba stretch of the Cape Coast-Accra road.
Mr. Asiedu, together with the Regional Treasurer, Mr. Eric Essuah, were transporting copies of the pink sheets of the election results from party agents in the region, to the Headquarters in Accra.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are sketchy, but the vehicle they were travelling on was said to have veered off the road as the driver lost control.
They were rushed to the Specialist and Trauma Hospital in Winneba, and later transferred to the 37 Military Hospital, but Mr. Asiedu did not survive.
Mr. Essuah and the driver who sustained serious injuries, are in a critical condition.
The late Asiedu, a Law student, served as the aide to the former Central and Western Regional Minister, Mr. Ebenezer K.T. Addo.
