NDC can recapture power in 2020–Group

Action Movement, a group affiliated to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that the party might win the 2020 general elections, if the leadership and supporters alike adhered to probity and accountability, principles that won the trust of Ghanaians in previous elections.

It urged them to rally behind the party as it seeks to recapture political power in 2020.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, spokesperson for the group, Kodzo Hamenya Keglo said, “Now is the time for the NDC to rejuvenate its grassroot.”

He advised the NDC to engage in constructive criticisms instead of resorting to bickering, infighting and petty quarrels, which he said could deny them victory in 2020.

Mr. Keglo claimed that Ghanaians voted out the NDC because of alleged corruption involving some members of the party.

He said the party did not heed the call of its founder, former President Jerry John Rawlings who on many occasions asked the leadership of the party including the opposition to uphold the tenets of good governance, incorruptibility and accountability.

Mr. Keglo lamented that the conduct of some government appointees in the previous Mahama administration resulted in the massive defeat in the 2016 general elections.

He indicated that the NDC was the best party for Ghana because it was established on egalitarian principle which ensures equitable distribution of resources to the people.

Mr. Keglo appealed to Ghanaians to scrutinise campaign promises of the Akufo-Addo government to make an informed choice in the next elections.

He said the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) was departing from its electioneering campaign promises, adding that the NDC performed creditably in the past eight years,a record the NPP government must strive to outperform.
