The National Theatre of Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana National Dance Company and National Symphony Orchestra has started a three-day music and dance show dubbed “Aza.”
The show, also supported by the Azaguno Inc. and the University of Ohio, United States of America (USA), is an international festival of new music and dance from Africa and the African diaspora.
It would feature artistes from the USA, Canada, Azerbaijan and India, as well as those from Ghana, including Bi-Tonic Singers, Abeka Lapaz Youth Choir, Osu One Voice Choir, Ashaiman ARS Youth Choir and Ghana’s National Symphony Orchestra performers.
Initiated by Professor Yao Younge and Dr. Zelma Badu- Younge, Aza is the second collaboration between the National Theatre and other resident companies and Azaguno Inc. after Diema.
Currently underway is symposia and workshop focusing on ‘The Arts and Artistes in Contemporary Ghana’ for music and dance artistes.
The workshop offered the platform for players to exchange ideas, concepts and recommendations to aid artistes and art development and cultural education in Ghana.
The festival is to explore the increasing links in the interdisciplinary global arts, science, media and technology as well as offer students the opportunity to see at first hand an international production and interaction with directors and performers to broaden their knowledge.
