National Service Personnel Paid

The National Service Secretariat (NSS) has effected the payment of outstanding allowances to the immediate past national service personnel.

It has, therefore, directed service personnel to contact their respective district NSS offices for payment of their outstanding claims.

A statement signed by the acting Director of the Secretariat, Dr. Kpessah Whyte reminded all personnel that they would be “required to complete declaration forms which must also be duly endorsed by their supervisors before they are paid their allowances.”

The payment of the allowances was suspended early this year, to enable the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to undertake a thorough review of the NSS payment processes, after it uncovered massive corruption at the Secretariat.

Investigations revealed that about GH¢7.9 million was paid to 22,612 non-existent national service persons in more than 100 districts in July 2014.

The former Executive Director of the NSS, Alhaji Alhassan Mohammed Imoro, was subsequently arrested and was remanded, but later granted a GH¢90 million bail by an Accra High Court.
