NAB, SLTF Boards Inaugurated

Prof Jane Naana Opoku  Agyemang(fifth from left),in a group photograph with new board members.The Minister of Education, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, yesterday inaugurated a 15 member-board for the National Accreditation Board (NAB) and a 13 member-board for the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) in Accra.

Speaking at the short inaugural ceremonies, Prof. Opoku-Agyeman charged both boards to demonstrate high sense of integrity and patriotism in their line of duty.

She reminded the NAB of their core responsibility to ensure that they granted accreditation to only qualified public and private institutions according to the contents and standards of their programmes.

She urged them to make quality standard in tertiary education their central focus while ensuring that the institutions conform to standards expected of tertiary institutions in the country.

Prof. Opoku-Agyeman indicated that the Ministerial Legislative Drafting Committee was working around the clock to strengthen the regulatory system to enhance quality education in tertiary institutions through the review of NAB Act 774.

According to her, the 131 tertiary institutions should be equipped to live up to expectation by producing a needed workforce for the growth of the country.

Prof. Opoku-Agyeman also reminded the board of SLTF of the confidence reposed in them by the President to craft the requisite policies to achieve the aims of removing financial barriers towards the acquisition of tertiary education loans.

“I also urge you to establish systems to ensure the effective and efficient recovery of loans and put in place structures and guidelines that will facilitate fairness in the disbursement and application of the fund”, she said.

According to the minister, policies must be formulated to determine the terms under which money from the fund would be allocated to eligible students and the maximum amount of money that may be granted by the fund to applicants.

She congratulated the two boards on their appointments and expressed hope in their ability to deliver.

The board for NAB has Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah as its chairman, with Prof. E.K.A Osam, Dr. R.E.M Entsua-Mensah, Mr. Robertson Akwei Allotey, Very Rev. Sam Nii Nmai Ollennu, Rev. Prof. JOY Mante, and Mr. Richard Dadey as members.

Other members are Prof. Nicholas N. Nsowah-Nuamah, Prof. G.D.D Kuupole, Dr. Daniel Bagah, Prof. K.B Omane-Antwi, Prof. P.N Buatsi, Prof. Nii Noi Dowuona and Mr. Kwame Dattey.

Mr. Andy Osei Okrah was also sworn in as the chairman for the board of SLTF with Ms. Monalyn Anokye-Bempah, Mr. Sam Donkor, Mr. Solomon Osei, Mr. David Ardey, Mr. Daniel King and Sheila Naah-Boamah as members.

The rest are Mr. Paul Dzandu, Mr. Rauf Adam, Mrs. Evelyn Keelson, and a representative from the Ghana Employers Association as well as a representative from the Ministry of Education.
