MTN/FA Cup tourney to be launched today

THE 2014/15 MTN FA Cup competition will be launched today at the Ghana Football Association’s Secretariat in Accra.

The competition will involve clubs from the Premier, First and Second divisions of the Ghanaian league.

The draw for the Preliminary Round of the MTN FA Cup, involving Division One and Division Two clubs, will also be held at the launch to decide the fixtures for the start of the competition. All the 48 clubs of the Division One League and the 48 qualified Division Two clubs from the 10 Regional Football Associations will know their opponents at the draw.

The competition, which is sponsored by Ghana’s number one telecommunication company, Scancom Limited (MTN Ghana), enters its fifth year after its return.

Nania FC, New Edubiase and Medeama FC won the first three editions of the competition.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko won last season’s edition of the FA Cup competition after beating Inter Allies 2-1 in the final played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Congress of the Ghana Football Association has approved and adopted a new FA Cup Regulations for the control and management of the MTN FA Cup completion which kicks off with the preliminary round on January 28 this year for all qualified Division One and Division 2 clubs across the country.

In the exercise of the powers conferred on the Congress of the GFA as the supreme and legislative organ of the GFA by Article 23 of the

Statutes of the Association, Article 9(1) to Article 9(6) of the General Regulations which governs the FA Cup competition were amendment as part of the First Amendments of the General Regulations.

Articles 9(1) to Article 9(6) of the General Regulations have been

amended by deletion and are replaced with a new Article 9 by Congress to give life to the new approved FA Cup Regulations to govern for the MTN FA Cup from this season.

The new article 9 reads as follows:

“The FA Cup Competition shall be controlled, managed and governed bythe FA Cup Regulations approved and adopted by the GFA Congress and the articles of general application of the GFA Regulations, the Statutes of the GFA, the GFA Disciplinary Code and any other Regulation of the Ghana Football Association”.

The FA Cup Regulations came into effect on December 30, 2014. The FACommittee urges all Clubs, especially those participating in this

year’s MTN FA Cup completion, to take note of the new regulations and comply with the rules accordingly.

The new FA Cup Regulations is expected to improve the management of the completion which enters its 5th year this season. Nania FC, New Edubiase, Medeama FC are the previous winners while Kumasi Asante Kotoko are the defending champions.
