The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Benjamin Kpodo, has presented cash awards and a set of books to fourteen Senior High School students in the Ho Municipality who excelled in the 2014 West African Senior School Certificate Exams (WASSCE).
Jewel Ansah-Afriyie from OLA Senior High School, received GH¢600.00 and a certificate as the OverallBest student in the Municipality, while each of the remaining students took GH¢400.00 .
Mr. Benjamin Kpodo, tracing the history of the scheme, said that he was moved by the falling standard of education in his constituency, hence the need to motivate students in Business and General Science.
According to him, the award scheme would be an annual affair where deserving students would get to know that there is honour in hard work.
He said for now the award scheme covers students in both public and private second cycle schools in the Metropolis.
The MP entreated the students to take their education seriously so that they could derive maximum benefits from it.
In his remarks, Mr. Peter Kotoe Nortsu, MP for Akatsi North called on all stakeholders not to relent on their efforts to speak against the falling standard of education in the region as well as lead the crusade against other social vices in schools.
He advised students to cultivate the habit of reading more books to enhance their academic performance.
He expressed concern about the leakage of the Basic Education Certificate Exams questions and stressed the need for students to be serious with their education.
Present at the function were Bishop Francis Lodonu, Bishop of Ho Diocese, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Francis Ganyaglo and officials from the Regional Education office.
