A Wa Circuit Court has slapped a GH¢51,000 judgement debt on the Sissala West District Health Management Team (DHMT) for breach of contract.
According to Tumu Radford Fm, the Member of Parliament (MP)- elect for the area, Ridwan Abass Dauda, secured the judgement after the facility improperly abrogated a building contract with him.
The court directed the authorities of the facility to pay the amount or its property would be attached for auctioning to settle its indebtedness to the applicant.
Dauda revealed that in 2013, his company was awarded a contract to renovate a hall and complete two offices for the use of the Gwollu Hospital at the cost of GH¢59,000.00.
After completing part of the job, he was given GH¢17,170.00 and since then work had stalled.
Mr. Dauda was left with doors, painting and other minor works to complete the entire project and he demanded from the directorate an advanced payment of GH¢5,000.00 so that he could complete and hand over the project and wait till the facility was ready to settle the rest of the amount owed.
That, he said, was ignored and some months later, he saw another contractor working on the project, which he claimed had been repackaged to the tune of GH¢84,000.00.
“I drew the attention of the authorities, citing the absence of a letter of termination where my difference could be worked out for me. I later took the case to court and on three occasions, the directorate failed to show up in court, making the judge to award a cost of
GH¢51,000.00 against the DHMT,” Mr. Dauda said.
Mr Daude affectionately called Rid, said he sent several letters to the directorate, but did not receive attention
Meanwhile, management of the facility has revealed that it will seek an alternative dispute resolution towards addressing the matter, expressing fear that any action to enforce the decision of the court might affect health care delivery in the Sissala West District.
