MP Assist Yagba/Kubori Students

MustaphaThe Member of Parliament (MP) for Yagba/Kubori, Mr Mustapha Ussif, has assisted 150 tertiary students with GH¢30,000.

He has also donated 15,000 exercise books to basic and second cycle schools in the constituency, under a project dubbed: “MP Sponsorship and Free Exercise Books”, aimed at bridging the educational gap between the people in the constituency and other parts of the country.

Mr Ussif made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, and said the beneficiaries are natives of Yagba/Kubori, and were selected from the various tertiary institutions across the country, irrespective of their political and tribal affiliations.

He said the students received GH¢ 200 while others got four exercise books each adding that the amount would be increased next year.

Mr Ussif also launched the Yagba/Kubori Educational Fund which would source funding from the MP’s Common Fund and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) among others for material and infrastructural needs of schools in the constituency and the district.

He said education is the bedrock of the development of every country and must be considered as the priority of every individual, group or organisation.

Mr Ussif said education in the constituency was nothing to write home about and that lack of infrastructure, teachers, and teaching and learning materials were the cause of the under-performance of the students.

He appealed to the government to develop educational infrastructure in the Yagba District.

Mr Abu Damba, a student of the University of Cape Coast and a beneficiary, thanked the MP for the support and appealed to organisations and individuals to emulate the gesture. GNA
