The Accra Industrial Area District Fire Officer (DFO) of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Osmond Annum, has urged leaders of market associations, to train fire wardens to prevent and manage fire outbreaks at the markets.
According to him, if such people were equipped with fire prevention skill they could help during emergency cases.
DFO Annum made the call at a fire sensitisation campaign for traders at the Odawna market, organised by the GNFS in Accra yesterday.
He said the exercise will be ongoing to ensure that the public adopted the best practices in fire prevention and management to protect lives and property.
Assistant District Officer (ADO) Patience Osei of the GNFS, urged traders to engage the services of certified electricians for the wiring and installation of electrical gadgets to prevent fire outbreaks.
“Call on the GNFS emergency numbers 192 during emergencies, do not wait till the issue gets out of hand before you call on us”, she stressed
The Fire Safety Officer appealed to the traders who use naked fire at the market to ensure it is quenched before leaving the premises for their various homes.
As part of the occasion, fire safety fliers were presented to them and fire demonstration was conducted for the traders.
