The Ministry of Food and Agriculture yesterday received items and cash from four companies towards the celebration of this year’s Farmer’s Day celebrations.

The companies are Motor King, dealers in motorcycles presented GH¢ 20, 000, Ghana Maritime Authority, GH¢10, OOO, (GMA) Super Maritime Authority, GH¢ 1,000 and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, (GPHA) GH¢20, 000 and seven cartons of Crocodile Machetes.

Mr Samuel Agyemang,  presenting the items on behalf of the GPHA,  said the presentation formed part of the corporate social responsibility of the authority to the country.

According to him, the hardworking farmers and fisher folk of the country must be  recognised to boost their moral to increase productivity.

“Over the years,  the company has been contributing to the Farmer’s Day activities as a mark of recognition for the gallant farmers and fisher folk whose contribution has advanced the socio-economic development of the country,” he said.

Mr Agyemang said the industrialisation of the country could only be achieved if the base of the agricultural sector was solid enough to make inroads to the international market in support of the government’s Planting For Food and Jobs initiative.

“It’s about time institutions double their efforts to support government’s flagship programmes towards promoting the country’s agricultural transformational agenda to make the sector more attractive to the youth.”

The Minister of State of MOFA, Dr Nurah Gyiele, commended the companies for the gesture and urged other organisations to support the ministry recognise the efforts of the country’s hardworking farmers and fisher folk.
