Mobile voice subscriptions for July up 1.9%

The total number of mobile voice subscriptions recorded in July was 37,136,600, representing a percentage increase of 1.94 per cent from the previous month’s figure of 36,430,847, the National Communications Authority’s (NCA) latest report has said.

 

According to the report, the total penetration rate for the month under review was 130.35 per cent.

 

The NCA said, MTN’s voice subscriptions for the period was 17,654,96, representing a percentage increase of 2.03 per cent from June 2017’s figure of 17,304,425.

 

“MTN’s market share for the month under review was 47.54 per cent,” it said.

 

In the case of Vodafone, its mobile voice subscriptions increased from 8,773,444 to 8,920,617 as at the end of June 2017.

 

This, the NCA said, represented a percentage increase of 1.68 per cent, while Vodafone’s market share for June 2017 was 24.02 per cent.

 

Similarly, Tigo’s voice subscriptions increased from 5,360,443 as at the end of June 2017 to 5,510,992 as at the end of July 2017.

 

“This indicates a percentage increase of 2.81 per cent. Their market share for the month under review was 14.84 per cent,” said NCA.

 

However, Airtel’s voice subscriptions decreased from 4,236,788 as at the end of June 2017 to 4,217,490 as at the end of July 2017.

 

“This represents a percentage decrease of 0.46 per cent, while its total market share for the month under review was 11.36 per cent,” the regulator said.

 

Glo’s voice subscriptions increased from 732,483 as at the end of June 2017 to 809,269 at the end of July 2017, reflecting a percentage increase of 10.48 per cent for the month.

 

The company’s total market share for the month under review was 2.18 per cent.

 

Voice subscriber figures for Expresso was 23,264 as at the end of April 2017, recording a 0.06 per cent total market share for the same period.

 

There are two operators providing fixed line services to the public, comprising Vodafone and Airtel.

According to the regulator, as at the end of July 2017, the total subscriptions for the fixed operators was 276,810, representing a percentage increase of 2.01 per cent from the previous month.

 

“Vodafone recorded a total subscription of 270,062 while Airtel ended the month with 6,748 subscriptions,” the NCA report said.
