MOBA hold memorial service…late Kofi Annan, Amissah-Arthur, others remembered

THE Mfantsipim Old boys Association (MOBA) has held a memorial service in honour of 70 deceased members including former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan and former Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur.

The maiden service held at the Accra Ridge Church on Sunday was planned to concur with the school’s founders’ day thanksgiving service, held each Sunday after April 3, the day the school was established by the Methodist Church in 1876.

Attended by the families of the old boys who died between 2018 and March 31, 2019, the solemn ceremony, was to set in motion activities to mark 143 years of blazing the trail in secondary school education in the country.

Reverend Kofi Ankama-Asamoah of MOBA 1980 year group, in a brief homily during the service, commended old boys for contributing to the development of the world in various fields and countries.

The departed old boys, he said, had paid their dues to society and urged their families and comrades to console themselves with the fact that they lived meaningful lives.

He, therefore, reminded the living of the need to distinguish themselves wherever they found themselves by portraying the values they were exposed to, in the school.

The MOBA Ebusapanyin, Captian Paul Forjoe urged members of the fraternity to be great ambassadors of the school and continue to support projects earmarked for the school.

The 143rd anniversary of the school would be climaxed with a speech and prize- giving day in November on the theme: “Hɛn nananom botaepa (Akan meaning, our forefathers’ good vision/purpose): quality education and quest for global competitiveness.”
