A former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Baba Jamal, has observed that Metropolitan Municipal District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) contesting Members of Parliament (MPs) disorganised the way to deploy resources hence the defeat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 elections.

He bemoaned the way parliamentary candidates were selected, everybody involvement in the voting process to elect delegates and MMDCEs contesting sitting MPs were wrong which accounted for 50 per cent of defeat of the party.

Mr Jamal, a National Organiser aspirant noted that the humiliating defeat the party suffered was as a result of some decisions the top hierarchy of the NDC took which was not in its interest.

“The module we used to select our parliamentary candidates where everybody was involved in the voting process was wrong, it didn’t help us because it accounted to 50 per cent of our loss,” he revealed.

He also lamented the imposition of parliamentary candidates on some constituencies, especially MMDCEs when party supporters opposed the action and attributed the election misfortunes to MMDCEs allowed to contest sitting MPs.

“It was not the best, it must be looked at again and the determinants of our defeat were how resources were disbursed to the constituency level, in terms of the campaign, we deployed our resources to where there were no centres.

“That one takes from here, the other takes from there, it did not look good, did not help resulting why we are in opposition, the party looks good and formidable  to take power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is ‘deceitful’.

“The NPP lied its way into power and is still lying to the citizenry since its pro-poor policy is facing challenges and the government seems not to care including

high taxes , fuel increment and corruption are issues worrying us and I appeal to the electorate to rally behind the NDC to regain power in 2020 and the delegates vote him as the National Organiser of the NDC,” Mr Jamal indicated. –
