‘Mmdas Have Failed To Curb Conflicts In N/R

Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini,Deputy Northern Regional Minister (12)Alhaji Abdul-Basit Fuseini, Deputy Northern Regional Minister has blamed Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), in the Northern Region, for failing to curb conflicts in the area.

He said some MMDAs allowed conflicts to grow beyond control,  saying, “You cannot exonerate yourself from blame for some of the conflicts, which are recurring.”

Alhaji Fuseini was speaking at a meeting of the Northern Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) and the MMDAs to deliberate on major development issues affecting the region at Tamale on Tuesday.

The meeting discussed the street-naming exercise and proposals for the district medium-term plans by MMDAs.

Alhaji Fuseini expressed worry that the region has, for the past few months, been experiencing conflicts which have affected development.

He advised the MMDAs to take early warning signals of conflicts seriously and liaise with the RCC to avert trouble.

Alhaji Fuseini said some assemblies in the region were in financial crisis and were without any project due to conflicts, stressing that, “any meager resources that fall in the hands of such assemblies are diverted into conflict resolution.”

He said the  government was working hard to improve the lives of the people, and urged the MMDAs to work seriously to fulfill the manifesto of the National Democratic Congress.—GNA
