Mmdas Asked To Speed Up Streets Naming

Mr Julius Debrah,Minister of Local Government and Rural Delopment.Photo.Ebo Gorman (1)Mr Julius Debrah, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, has urged metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies to accelerate the street naming and house numbering exercise.

He said as the ultimatum given by the President for the end of the exercise approached, it would be irresponsible for any assembly to be at the starting state.

Mr Debrah made the call when he paid a working visit to some assemblies in the Greater Accra Region, to familarise himself with the exercise.

He said the exercise was not an event to end on a particular date, but rather an on-going process because new houses and streets that would spring up, would need classification under the project.

Mr Debrah therefore, asked the assemblies to consider the exercise as a national project.

Mr Benjamin Angenu, Adenta Municipal Chief Executive, said the assembly had so far approved 1,284 street names at public durbars and exhibitions.

He said it was currently considering 968 street names for the exercise.

Mr Angenu gave the assurance that the assembly would complete the project as scheduled.
