With Nelson’s exposure to bigger platforms and state of the art equipment, he was a strong favourite with his five wins without blemish ahead of Commey whose 10 previous win were all held in Ghana.

But at the D.G Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, Commey proved his doubters wrong by putting up an impressive show to hand the UK born Ghanaian fighter his first professional loss.

Nelson was undone by the rapid punches and kicks of Commey, forcing his corner to throw in the towel in round two.

A flurry of devastating punches from Commey left Nelson dazed and needing medical attention which was provided before he was finally rushed to the Ridge Hospital for further attention.

For Commey, the win came at the right time and will motivate him for the upcoming African Kickboxing championship in Morocco.

According to him, his focus will now be on the African championship and hope success there will open the door for bigger opportunities.

“I have won many medals, now I need a title belt. I want to be a world champion; I thank my coaches for this win, as well as Urban Sports Champions and members of Pro Fight Factory who have supported me, especially Lawrence Nyanyo Nmai and my mother.”

In other supporting bouts, Amba Mvolo of cameroun beat Horatio Alonu of Nigeria.

Franklin Esoe of Cameroun ‘decisioned’ Nnsaemeka Nwoye, as Bikim Steve of Cameroun also beat his opponent Sallasie C. Degollo. Jonathan Lamptey beat fellow Ghanaian Benedict Asriel.

Mr Gabby Ammah of Urban Sports Champions said MMA can be promoted here in Ghana as there are many young fighters in the country and promised to take Commey out to Europe for exposure.
