The Local Government Ministry has donated building materials to the Nkawie Islamic Junior High School of the Atwima-Nwabiagya District, in the Ashanti Region.
Worth GH¢7,000, the items consisting of 100 bags of cement and 100 iron rods, are to help in the construction of a four-unit classroom block for the school.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Atwima-Nwabiagya District, Nana Asare Bediako, presenting the items on behalf of the ministry, said the donation which was not the first in a Zongo community, was to help promote education in the Zongo communities so as to gradually get rid of the stigma these communities face.
“I do not accept the violent stigma the Zongo communities are branded with, we need to provide them with education” the DCE said.
Receiving the items on behalf of the school, the School Management Committee chairman, Abubakari Salis, was grateful for the gesture and prayed that these donations would continue to come to help in the promotion of education in the community.
