Ministry Presents Five Vehicles To RCCs

Mr. Oppong-FosuThe Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MFLGRD) through the District Development Facility (DDF) has presented five station wagon vehicles to five Regional Co-ordinating Councils (RCCs).

The regions are the Eastern, Upper East, Upper West, Brong-Ahafo and Ashanti Regions.

The vehicles are meant to support the RCCs to effectively discharge their roles and responsibilities of co-ordinating and monitoring the activities of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) in the delivery of the required services.

Presenting the vehicles, Akwasi Opong-Fosu, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development said in all, eight vehicles had so far been distributed to the RCCs leaving Greater Accra and Northern Regions.

He said theirs had been catered for in next year’s budget and they would most probably receive their vehicles by the middle of next year.

Mr Opong-Fosu commended the development partners for supporting the DDF to facilitate the resourcing by the MMDA’s to enable them perform well.

He said over the years, the DDF had transferred not less than GH¢120 million respectively to MMDAs to assist them implement programmes and projects in their development plans.

Mr Opong-Fosu asked the RCC’s to ensure that laid down procedures in the award of contracts and procurement of goods and services by the MMDA’s were strictly adhered to.

He said procurement and contract awards processes had become a serious concern to major stakeholders “so we need to sit up to correct the various anomalies in the MMDA’s “.

Mr Opong-Fosu also urged the RCC’s to monitor and report on the utilisation of the demand driven capacity building grants by MMDA’s. By Lawrence Markwei
