The Challenge Cup put together by the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) was to give the two schools who have been pioneers of the game of cricket among the senior high schools in the region, the opportunity to test their strength against each other while using it as an outreach programme to welcome other schools on board.
Adisadel was first to bat and scored 111 for 8 in 20 overs in the first innings.
Mfantsipim took charge of batting in the second innings and scored 113 for 4 in 18 overs, winning by 6 wickets to be crowned champions.
Speaking at the end of the competition, a member of the GCA, Mr. Henry Ackom, congratulated both schools for their outstanding showing and their technical understanding of the game so far, charging them to keep training as there are opportunities to rope them into the various national teams.
He thanked the MOBA 1977 Year Group for supporting the games with funds and urged other year groups to come on board and buy more equipment for both schools to help in spreading the game.
On his part, the headmaster for Adisadel College, Mr. Kusi-Yeboah, thanked the GCA for helping put together the game and urged them to spread the game across the region.
The GCA yesterday visited Kibi as part of an outreach programme in a bid to re-introduce the game to the schools. This followed their visit to the Akwamuman Senior High School last Friday to oversee the school’s first-ever Inter-House Cricket competition.
