Men Of Integrity Must Seek Leadership Positions

Ustaz Yakubu Salifu, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has blamed Ghana’s leadership problem on the failure of men of integrity to seek elective and leadership positions in the country.

“Ghana has not developed its full potentials and has been lagging behind because she has failed to elect leaders with the genuine interest of the people at heart,” he indicated.

Ustaz Yakubu made the observation while speaking to party supporters in Koforidua in preparation to the forth-coming PNC National Congress.

He urged Ghanaians from the grassroots to be more involved in the selection of their leaders, saying that, “when a mediocre is allowed to run the affairs of a country it would spell doom for that country”, he noted.

Ustaz Yakubu, who is also the Zonal Chairman of the Eastern Region Hoteliers Association, advised that people of moral rectitude, who had contributed to the development of the country or to their private institutions, should not hesitate to come out and show interest in leading the country.

He indicated that Ghana’s present leaders were not sure where they were going and for that matter it would be difficult for Ghanaians to even know if their leaders were making progress or not.

“The National Democratic Congress (NDC) government under President John Mahama is not people centered as it used to be under previous governments,” adding that, “unemployment and institutional corruption had engulfed the whole country.”

He appealed to delegates who would be attending the congress to elect new national executives and a flag bearer, to ensure that they vote for trustworthy people and not those who when given the nod would act as stooges to other political parties.

Ustaz Yakubu said the ideals of the late Dr Hilla Liman, who was the founder of the PNC, would remain the only practical requirements with which the social-political fabric of “our existence as a nation must be woven”.

He noted that Dr Liman was a brilliant political diplomat and astute politician, a statesman of unblemished and excellent character.
