Melcom Care, Lifebuoy Launch Washing Campaign

Melcom PixMelcom Care and Lifebouy have initiated a healthy hand washing campaign as a disease prevention practice to curb the increasing number of cholera cases being recorded at various health centres in the country.

Launching the one-month long campaign in Accra, the Director of Communications of Melcom Group, Mr. Godwin Avenorgbo said Melcom Care and Lifebouy have one thing in common, welfare; so it is important that they invest in a life-saving campaign that reassures people that a simple handwashing could prevent diseases like cholera and Ebola.

He said: “It is time we focus our attention, as a nation on the sustenance of life through the formation of healthy habits, if we want to achieve success in the maintenance of the infrastructure that seem to cloud our minds as the visible measuring rod for national development.”

At the launch, staff of Lifebuoy took the audience and shoppers through a step by step approach to handwashing with Lifebouy soap under running water.

The campaign which was launched at the Melcom Plus, Kaneshie has moved to Melcom Spintex branch and will be held on subsequent Saturdays at Accra Central Melcom, Tema Melcom Plus and end at Kaneshie Melcom Plus on Saturday.

Mr. Avenorgbo explained that the collaboration with Lifebuoy is because the soap kills 99 per cent of germs and bacteria and is affordable, adding that “as a kind gesture every participant in the handwashing demonstration with Lifebuoy staff will be given a cake of Lifebouy with which to continue the handwashing experience at home”.

At the launch was Mrs. Sonya Sadhwani, Director of Brand Management, Melcom Group and representatives of Lifebuoy.

In another development, Mr. Avenorgbo commended the media and hospital staff for their support in the recent successful blood donation campaign funded by the Melcom Care Foundation to increase the stock of blood at the National Blood Bank.

The exercise yielded over 639 pints of blood from donors at the bleeding points in front of selected branches of Melcom in the regions.
