Medeama Blow Chance To Advance

medeamaaMedeama’s hope of making it to the money zone of the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup competition was dashed after losing to 4-5 on penalty shoot-outs to AC Leopards 4-5 from Congo Brazzaville at the Essipun Sports Stadium, yesterday.

The Mauve and Yellow boys won 2-0 in regulation time to make it 2-2 on aggregate after losing the first leg with a similar margin.

It took goalkeeper Muntari Tagoe to open the floodgates for the hosts in the 75th minute of the game through a spot kick awarded by the Ivorian   referee, Dennis Dembele.

Former Asante Kotoko striker, Michael Helegbe had failed to utilize a similar chance when spot kick was awarded the hosts in the early minutes of the game.

Medeama continued to pile pressure on the visitors who defended very deep in their half of the field but Hans Coffie’s 82nd minute goal restored parity and in the process threw the entire stadium in a celebration mood.

Realizing the danger Medeama posed in the few minutes left, the Leopards poured forward with long drives which were dealt with by Muntari Tagoe.

Medeama continued to surge forward for the winning goal which but were denied by the Congolese goalkeeper who pulled some magnificent saves to throw the game into the shoot-outs.
