Mechanic Nabbed For Defiling 2-Yr-Old Child

HandcuffsA circuit Court in Takoradi has remanded Eric Awku, a 25-year-old mechanic in police custody for allegedly defiling a two-and-half-year-old baby girl, at Fante  New Town at Daboase, in the Wassa East District, a   week ago.

Currently, the victim, (with name withheld) who is  in critical condition is receiving treatment at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

The plea of Awku, alias Yao Torgbui, was not taken and he would re-appear  on January 16.

Prosecuting, a Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Supridendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, told the court, presided over by Mr. Charles B. Nimako, that the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on December 30, last year.

ASP Adiku said, while Madam Felicia Aidoo and her daughter (victim) were sleeping, Awku sneaked into their room at Fante New Town, took the girl to a nearby bush and defiled her.

The court heard that the cry of the victim attracted the mother and neighbours and when they went to the scene Awku took to his heels.

“He was a given a hot chase and was apprehended and handed over to the police,” ASP Adiku told the court. From Clement Adzei Boye, Sekondi
