MCE laments apathy towards poll

The Asunafo North Municipal Director of National Commission for Civil Education (NCCE), Philip Kombat has bemoaned apathy in the district level elections, especially among women in the area.

He explained that in the upcoming district level elections out of 79 aspiring assembly members only four are women , adding that those contesting  for the unit committee position 22 out of the 269, are females.

This came to light at a community durbar organised by NCCE at Kasapin in the Asunafo North municipality of the Brong-Ahafo.

The aim of the durbar was to whip up the interest of the electorate to participate fully in the upcoming district level elections slated for March 3, 2015.

The above statistics Mr. Kombat indicated means the assembly will be dominated by men saying such situation if care is not taken, could lead to women will being relegated to the background.

He therefore  urged women to take interest in community meetings  and participate actively in decision-making at the local level so that their concerns could be addressed.

The Municipal Director stressed that women should not sit aloof and allow their counterparts to take decisions all the time for the entire populace adding that such approach if not addressed will always make women marginalised in society.

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of NCCE, Issah Abdulai Nasagri urged the public to turn out in their numbers  and vote in the upcoming district elections as well as  rally behind those elected to fast-track socio-economic development .

The Chief of Kasapin, Nana Wiredu Brempong advised the aspirants to conduct their campaigns in civil and decent manner in order to maintain the prevailing peace in the area.
